Outreach/Bookmobile
Outreach Services
Our library outreach department creates varied opportunities to communicate with the public. We help develop children's interest in books at 27 certified in-home and/or child care centers.
We read to approximately 400-500 children per month during the school year and between 100-200 children per month during the summer.
Another service offered by the outreach department to certified in-home and/or child care centers is book drop-off and pick-up. Sets of holiday books are also available to be delivered with the following topics--Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day & Spring.
Between 700-800 books are delivered during the school year per month and between 300 and 400 books are delivered during the summer months.
Outreach services provides the Senior Citizen's Center with a book discussion group each month September through May. Our average number of participating seniors in this group is eight and the average age is 70 years young.
Bookmobile Services
-
There is a wide selection of materials available on the bookmobile. The collection includes best sellers, paperbacks, children's books, reference materials, movies, and audio book cassettes. The loan period for items checked out is about two weeks.
-
Patrons may request materials be brought from the main library. However, this does not apply to movies. VHS and DVDs from the main library may not be picked up nor returned on the bookmobile.
-
Patrons may apply for library cards on the bookmobile. The same card is used for both the bookmobile and the main library. The first card is free; however, a fee of $1.00 is charged for replacement of a lost card.
-
Bookmobile stops may be cancelled due to holidays, bad weather, or mechanical difficulties. The bookmobile will not be running whenever Scott County Public Schools are closed due to weather. In these cases books will automatically be renewed until the next scheduled visit.
