Welcome to TWEEN Land! (Ages 8-12 years)
Tweens, or pre-teens, are our middle readers, boldly bridging childhood and being a teenager!
Every hour of their day is different as they hurdle through physical activities, creative expression, complex social interactions, achievements and participations. The Youth Services staff at Scott County Public Library aims to provide services, materials and programming in a library environment where tweens feel accepted and appreciated. The library is now offering a special area within the children’s department that is set apart just for this age group to do homework or socialize with friends.
As tweens get closer to their teenage years, they are ready for a little more independence and eager to make their own choices and decisions. They are also our “fun” and interactive group of patrons. Our SCPL librarians are poised to support, encourage and guide our pre-teens through our age-appropriate collections that speak to the developmental changes and challenges facing them. The library is also a neutral location where it is ok for tweens to be their own self. Keep an eye on our calendar for special programs for ages 8-12. We will be offering opportunities for tweens to explore their creativity, learn new skills, make friends and have fun.Of course, Tweens can still choose materials from the Juvenile and Teen collections, but we hope they find a niche in our new and fabulous Tween space!
